The date for the next beginner weaving class has been set for Thursday & Friday, May 24th & 25th. Class will run from 6pm until 9pm. This gives us the opportunity to take over the entire studio with no customer interuptions. The class discription is below and if you are interested in this class, stop into the studio or send your check to us to hold your place in class. The class is limited to 6 persons.

The Joy of Weaving:  This is an introductory class into the art of weaving, where an interested person may experience the fun and creativity of this ancient and often taken for granted art. Students will enjoy a fun and exciting day of weaving on each of the studio owned looms, from 2 harness to a 10 harness  loom. They will learn the basic functions and parts of the loom as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the different styles. As the looms will already be set up for class, warping will not be taught in this first class. Draft reading will be discussed to show the pattern set up of each sample woven. Each student will be able to take home their own samples.

The class will be taught on 2 consecutive nights from 6pm until 9pm.

Materials are included in the class fee.

Items covered in class:   The anatomy of a loom, Types of looms, Weaving vocabulary, Winding shuttles, Selvages, Reading drafts, and Weaving!!!

Weave Your Own Rug or Towel:  Try something new!  Here’s some cool things to do while in west Michigan.  We have 3 beautifully restored Weavers Delight looms built by the Newcomb Loom Company in our shop.  This is as easy as it gets for a person that knows nothing at all about weaving but would like to try it. We set up the looms so customers with no experience can come in and have a blast, weaving  a rag rug or cotton towel of their own design. You can bring in your own rags and weave a rug for $3/foot or use our rags for $8/foot.   Rugs take about 3 hours to complete.  Towels are $0.45/inch all materials included; they take about an hour to complete.  We recommend calling ahead to reserve a loom.
